Quimby
& Associates has provided significant support to pipeline
projects. Most of the work has been relating to diagnosing
problems with and designing repairs for existing petrochemical
pipelines. The following a few of the more significant projects:
Allison Creek Flow Enhancement.
Conducted feasibility study and preliminary design for a siphon to be
installed at Allison Lake, near Valdez, to enhance winter flow in
Allison Creek.
PS1 Pipe Releveling, EWR P-4652A.
Constructed mathematical models and executed analysis of deformed piping at Pump Station #1.
Valdez Pipe Settlement Investigation, EWR T-5259.
Initiated investigation into possible settlement of 48" header pipe at
the Valdez Terminal East Tank Farm. Collected field data and
conducted pipe stress analysis in an effort to estimate the extent of
settlement before excavation was accomplished.
FGL Exposure Repair.
This project required extensive support over two seasons.
Developed theory of mode of failure (included use of large deflection
and material non-linear analysis), assisted in development of procedure
to move and rebury 10" natural gas pipeline in permafrost in mid winter
with the pipe still in service, and provided field support during
reburial operations.
LPVR Main Header Piping.
Provided structural evaluation of piping supports and design of new
structure for a large diameter piping replacement project.
