As
a university professor, Bart has engaged in a number of activities that
have maintained and enhanced his competence as an engineer. He
has taught fourteen different courses, participated in experimental and
numerical research. As instructor of the senior civil engineering
project course he has coordinated the design of trail systems, bridges
(including preliminary designs for the controversial Knik Arm
crossing), and oil field developments all for real clients.
Bart served many years as the ASCE Student Chapter
Advisor, guiding his students to many awards and recognitions. He helped
them organize two regional ASCE conferences and the 1999 National Student
Steel Bridge Competition.
Additionally
he has taken a leadership role on campus, helping him to learn how to
be effective at making things happen within organizations. He
served seven years as the chair of the civil engineering program during
a time of great change. On the school level he has served on
eight different committees (as chair on three). At the university
level he has served on ten committees (as chair of three).
His last six years at the University he spent three years
working on campus wide curriculum and accreditation issues in the Provost's
office, two years as Associate Dean of Engineering (one of those years as
interim Chair of Geomatics in addition to being Associate Dean) then
finished out his academic career serving one year as Interim Dean of
Engineering. |
